Hello, I’m Wilbur Suero

I’m a Senior Full-Stack Engineer specializing in Applied AI, Ruby on Rails, and React, based in La Romana, Dominican Republic. I design and scale SaaS products, build data-heavy distributed architectures, and engineer LLM-driven workflows that power conversational AI and analytics at scale.

Currently, I work at Puzzle, where I own and ship production AI features supporting tens of thousands of daily users. My focus is on turning complex and ambiguous challenges into efficient, repeatable, and highly cost-effective engineering systems.

“No Magic, Just Systems.”

What I do

I care about building software that holds up under pressure. Not just software that works in a local sandbox or a quick demo, but systems that stay correct under concurrency, stay fast under high load, and remain predictable and debuggable when scaling up to millions of events.

Most of my daily work centers around the intersection of applied AI and backend infrastructure: designing scalable pipelines for LLM-based classification, text extraction, and conversational analytics. I obsess over production constraints—optimizing background processing (Sidekiq, Redis, Elixir services) and reducing LLM API usage through batching strategies, early-exit flows, and atomic finalization workflows to maintain high trust and data consistency.

My background includes a deep foundation in graphic design and multimedia, having graduated from the Altos de Chavón School of Design and ITLA. This unique design-leaning perspective gives me a high standard for usability, responsive interfaces, and developer experience—bridging the gap between robust system engineering and visual product execution.

Tech I work with

  • Programming Languages: Ruby, JavaScript, TypeScript, Elixir, SQL, HTML/CSS
  • Frameworks: Ruby on Rails, React, Next.js, Node.js
  • Backend & Data Systems: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Apache Kafka, Sidekiq, GraphQL, REST APIs
  • Infrastructure & DevOps: AWS (S3, ECS), Docker, Heroku, CI/CD Pipelines
  • Quality & Observability: RSpec, TDD (Test-Driven Development), Datadog, Performance Profiling, Incident Response

Beyond the code

I'm a strong advocate for technical craftsmanship and engineering discipline. Over my 10+ years in the industry, I have active experience mentoring junior and mid-level developers in test-driven development (TDD) and clean code practices, helping teams increase test coverage (up to 95%) and significantly lower production defect rates.

My background in ALT design and visual art keeps me connected to creative work outside of pure backend programming. I enjoy exploring layout aesthetics, human-computer interfaces, and experimenting with graphics tools.
